Winchester Stylists

Andy Smith

Andy Smith
Partner; Art Director; Wella Guest Stylist

Since beginning my career in 1998, and through much dedication and hard work I have achieved many accolades within the industry.  These include Head of the Nirvana Artistic Team; a complete portfolio for both Tony and Guy and Wella; photo shoots for trade, consumer and high profile society magazines; and a photo shoot for Versace.  I am also within a handful of top hairdressers in the country who have been named a Wella Master Colour Expert, which enables me to constantly stay in touch with the up and coming trends in London. I am constantly working hard to ensure a busy schedule for our art team, including regular photo shoots together with all of our salons and on location.  I also work for the World’s no.1 in professional hair care: ‘Wella Professionals’ as a guest stylist in the London and Manchester Studios, teaching stylists from all over the U.K. Wella's techniques and visions for the future in our industry. (There are only three members in the team from across the U.K!)  Most recently, I have been selected to join the Sebastian Cult Art Team; an exclusive group of 6 stylists from all over the country.

Through the years of working for Nirvana I have helped make important decisions regarding the business, working to moving the company from strength to strength, which I have now become a partner of with entrepreneur Tim Swain and wife Victoria. Together we strive to ensure excellence in every part of the business and with the vision of expanding, you never know there could be a new Nirvana salon opening nearer to you in the near future so watch this space!

I have been hairdressing for many years now and I can honestly say that it is still my passion to change my clients lives and mood's by giving them a hairstyle that that not only suits them but also makes them feel great about themselves. I love all area's of my trade whether it be a challenging colour correction or a simple trim.

Creative Stylist - Currently on Maternity Leave

I started my hairdressing career in 2003 and have been working for Nirvana Salons since September 2008. I have trained and achieved the highest qualification level of hairdressing but I am still satisfying my cravings for knowledge by attending Wella training days held in the London academy and also in salon. Cutting is possibly my forte but I also like a good challenge with colour!

We are a husband and wife team who used to own the salon in Oliver's Battery before Nirvana took over in 2008. We were styling hair there in what was then known as Donna hair fashion for over 40 years.

We have seen fashions come and go - then come back round again, and again, and so on- so we feel we have a wealth of experience in every single aspect of this fast moving industry. When we did decide to sell up and move aside for Nirvana to make it's mark we did think we would relax and enjoy life a little more but after only a matter of a few months... you guest it...we just weren't ready to hang our scissors up for good so here we are back for one morning each per week to look after all of our clients old and new.

I am currently working hard to build up my client base after qualifying in June 2009. Being a hairstylist is important to me as your hairstyle plays a big part in you looking and feeling good about yourself. My favourite aspect of hairdressing is colouring and I love a good challenge!  In the future I would love to follow in Nirvana's Director- Andy's footsteps by becoming a Wella Colour technician and guest stylist as I think it would be amazing to travel across the country teaching others and passing on my knowledge so watch this space!!!

Part of my role as an apprentice for Nirvana Salons is to make our clients feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible. I love talking; and getting to know everyone that comes into our salon is great. I have been doing my apprenticeship since February 2009 and hope to qualify before the end of 2010. My favourite part of the week is our training evening on a Monday evening where I learn every aspect of hairdressing from the amazing Nirvana art team so... if you fancy a change and don't mind sitting and relaxing for a little longer than in a normal hair appointment then give me a call!

As an apprentice I am really enjoying my time at Nirvana, it’s great fun and getting on with my colleagues comes naturally as we have a great team at Winchester!  I started college recently at Academy Number 5 Fareham, which is a fantastic place to learn all of my hairdressing skills.  We practise these every Monday night in our weekly training sessions with the Nirvana Art Team, so if you want a new style book an appointment with me on Mondays from 4pm!
